The Intel Xeon E-based TS-883XU uses ECC memory that can detect and correct single-bit memory errors as they occur to prevent downtime and data loss, which is essential for constant and mission-critical server-class applications. The TS-883XU supports dual-channel DDR4 memory in four Long-DIMM slots. When using paired memory modules, the TS-883XU can leverage the power of the dual-channel architecture to boost performance. You also customize the memory configuration (supports up to 64GB RAM) of the TS-883XU for superior performance to handle dynamically changing workloads such as virtualization.

The TS-883XU offers two 10GbE SFP+ ports that use the Mellanox ConnectX-4 Lx SmartNIC controller. They support iSCSI extensions for the RDMA (iSER) protocol, which allows data to bypass major network drivers, the socket layer, and enter directly into the ESXi server and storage buffers to offload workloads. If the VMware server and TS-883XU support iSER, it can provide up to a 60% improvement in random read/write performance and up to a 50% decrease in latency, making it an essential tool for optimizing performance-intensive virtualization applications.


Recommended use of PCIe slots


The TS-883XU provides multiple PCIe slots. To ensure that SATA drives have sufficient bandwidth, it is recommended that only entry-level expansion cards (such as a 1GbE NIC, USB 3.0 card, or Wi-Fi adapter) be used with the PCIe Gen2 slot (Slot 1, 3, 5) since this slot is connected to the PCH. For high-end expansion cards (including 10GbE/40GbE NICs, SAS cards, Mustang-200 accelerator card, and graphics cards), it is recommended to use the PCIe Gen3 slots (Slot 2, 4) as these slots are connected to the processor.

The TS-883XU includes 5 PCIe slots that allow the use of different expansion cards to increase the potential of applications.
  • 40 GbE / 25 GbE / 10 GbE Network Card: Enable blazing fast throughput for bandwidth-intensive tasks such as virtualization, large data transmission, and fast backup/recovery.
  • QM2 M.2/10GbE SSD Card: Add M.2 SSD cache or 10GbE connectivity to the NAS for optimized performance and bandwidth.

Enhance GPU-accelerated computing with graphics cards

Graphics cards are optimised for graphics transformations and calculations. The TS-883XU provides PCIe slots to install an AMD Radeon or NVIDIA graphics card to boost data-intensive AI machine learning. In addition, it offers benefits for image processing and virtual machine performance (via GPU passthrough).
  • The 3U/4U models support high-profile graphics cards that require an external power supply; the 1U/2U models support low-profile graphics cards that do not require an additional external power supply (e.g. NVIDIA GT1030).
  • GPU QTS support applies to NVIDIA graphics cards only. GPU passthrough for the VM is supported by AMD and NVIDIA graphics cards.
  • When Virtualization Station uses graphics cards, the NAS will temporarily stop hardware transcoding acceleration for QTS (and vice versa).
  • Always check the Compatibility List for supported graphics cards and NAS before purchasing a graphics card for the NAS.


SSD cache and automatic tiering allow for 24/7 storage efficiency optimization

Qtier technology enhances the TS-883XU with automatic tiering that helps continuously optimise storage efficiency by automatically moving data between 2.5-inch SSDs and high-capacity HDDs based on data access frequency. Qtier 2.0 includes I/O recognition that prioritizes SSD storage with reserved space as a cache to handle burst I/O in real time, greatly maximizing the benefits of SSDs.


Up to 128 monitoring channels in QVR Pro for complete security control


The TS-883XU supports the QVR Pro monitoring solution with 8 free channels for monitoring. It is possible to expand to 128 channels* with the purchase of additional channel licenses for a more extensive security deployment. QVR Pro supports over 5,000 IP cameras, including all standard fisheye cameras available on the market. There are more advanced features to unlock the full potential of fisheye cameras: allowing simultaneous display of a single fisheye camera image across nine channels at different angles as well as cross-platform hardware-accelerated decoding for fisheye camera images.
