Overview

QNAP TS-435XeU: 4-Bay NAS with SSD Cache and 2.5 GbE / 10 GbE Connectivity

The QNAP TS-435XeU is a compact and feature-rich NAS powered by a quad-core processor. It features 10 GbE SFP+ and 2.5 GbE connectivity as well as two M.2 NVMe SSD slots that enable cache acceleration for increased productivity. The shallow, space-saving design makes the TS-435XeU easy to install in small media cabinets or locations with lots of cabling. Supporting a variety of business applications (including file sharing and syncing, snapshot protection, containerization, cloud storage gateways, and video streaming), expandable storage capacity, and on-demand installation applications, the TS-435XeU is an ideal entry-level, cost-effective rackmount NAS.

Shallow depth and Quad-Core processor

Compared to a traditional 4-bay rackmount NAS, the compact TS-435XeU has a depth of only 292mm. This makes the TS-435XeU an excellent choice for small racks, and the unused space can be reserved for cabling or ventilation.

The TS-435XeU is powered by an Octeon TX2 Marvell CN9130 series CN9131 ARMv8 Cortex-A72 quad-core 2.2GHz processor that includes built-in hardware accelerators optimised for the workload.

QTS 5 operating system

The TS-464eU comes with the QTS 5 operating system as standard, providing a next-generation user experience with an updated system kernel, optimised user interface and advanced security features.

  • As you navigate through QTS 5, you'll notice detailed care for a smoother browsing experience, a visually pleasing design and find your favourite apps faster.
  • When you first install, the bulletin board guides you through the setup process.
  • Whether you're clicking buttons, switching apps, or maximizing/ minimizing windows, every action is much smoother. The search bar helps you find the apps you want quickly.

Smart monitoring solution

QVR Elite is QNAP's subscription-based intelligent monitoring solution that allows you to easily deploy a monitoring system with lower total cost of ownership and superior scalability. Recordings are saved as MP4 files, allowing them to be played back on virtually any device. In addition, QVR Elite integrates QNAP's AI solutions to establish intelligent facial recognition for retail and door access systems with QNAP NAS. You can arrange a dedicated and independent storage space for surveillance data on the TS-464eU and enjoy simplified camera management, storage allocation, live camera viewing, and playback.

Media Server

The TS-453DU-4G can easily be placed in a media cabinet. By installing Plex Media Server from QTS App Center, you can stream media files stored on the TS-453DU-4G to mobile and streaming media devices (including DLNA, Roku, Amazon Fire TV and Google Chromecast).

Integrity check for your hard drives

Hard drives are the heart of your NAS and ensuring their integrity and long-term reliability is absolutely crucial. QNAP offers various tools and methods to help you monitor the integrity of hard drives, which allows you to make proactive decisions to protect your data and files.

  • S.M.A.R.T and Bad Block Analysis: If any of the S.M.A.R.T values are reported as abnormal, or bad blocks are detected, you can take prior action and replace the drives before any data loss occurs.
  • DA Drive Analyzer: The DA Drive Analyzer leverages ULINK cloud-based AI to predict estimated drive life, which helps you plan future drive replacements to protect against NAS downtime and data loss.
  • Seagate IronWolf Health Management: When using supported IronWolf or IronWolf Pro hard drives, overall system reliability is improved by providing actionable prevention, response, and recovery options.

    Efficient and discreet

    As usual, QNAP quality!

Bought to replace a very old QNAP (12 years old, 24/7/365), I was able to put the 4 RAID 5 disks from the old one on this one, they were recognised immediately (no RAID rebuild), all that remained was to update the system and reconfigure (ethernet, firewall etc.).

Used with 3.5 HDDs, it's quiet, relatively small in depth and quite fast.
The network (1Gb/s) doesn't allow me to test the advantage of NVMe caching for SMB.
