Roomy, well-designed and practical NAS
As a user of NAS devices from major brands, exposed to the challenges of tropical countries (3 have already failed to withstand electrical fluctuations, dust and extreme humidity), I hesitated between building my own setup and getting a roomy, more open NAS. Although the DSM approach is interesting, it requires an identical replacement in the event of a failure. Here, we stick with RAID; the interface makes it easy to build your storage using several strategies in parallel, combining high throughput, redundancy and hot swapping, all in a compact form factor. A nice extra is the interface on the NAS, which lets you initialize it and interact with it without needing a Mac or PC terminal to manage it. Time will tell whether it is durable and whether its remote power-on features are effective.
