Small and quiet
A small, quiet NAS with enough CPU power to run a few applications. I installed Linux straight away, so I didn't test the operating system provided by ASUS.
The AS6706T Lockerstor 6 Gen 2 from ASUSTOR is a 6-bay 2.5"/3.5" SATA NAS network storage server with four M.2 2280 PCIe 3.0 slots for caching and/or SSD storage. Powered by an Intel Celeron N5105 Quad-Core processor and 4 GB of DDR4 RAM it will be at home in any business environment. Equipped with a rich network connectivity including 2 x 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet ports, it will avoid latency on your business network infrastructure.

The quad-core Intel Celeron N5105 processor features Intel's 10 nm process technology and up to 31% performance increase over Gemini Lake SoCs. The N5105 is clocked at 2.0 GHz with a burst frequency of up to 2.9 GHz, enabling efficient content creation.

Lockerstor Gen2 features two 2.5 GbE ports that more than double the performance of Gigabit Ethernet devices. But that's not all, with the recent introduction of multi-channel SMB support, your NAS will be able to combine the speed of multiple Ethernet ports for speeds well beyond 2.5 Gigabit.

A small, quiet NAS with enough CPU power to run a few applications. I installed Linux straight away, so I didn't test the operating system provided by ASUS.
This is my first NAS, and I'm quite happy with it - it's good for what I need (video streaming, cloud, backup and so on). However, 4 GB of RAM is a bit limited, especially if you don't restrict the use of RAM for certain applications, as you run the risk of running out of resources to access the application in order to solve the problem (the container application is very busy).
Also, the ventillo at the back makes a slight noise, which I can't say whether it's normal or not, but it's still quiet, having said that, and above all, be careful with the screws at the back for adding RAM or installing NVMe SSDs, some of them are very tight and you have to force them.
Hello, I've bought another asustor server, as the old one was too small in capacity, and I'm very happy with it, as these servers are very versatile in terms of connectivity and efficiency, nothing to add.
Bought to replace a two-bay Asustor model (AS-6102T), the migration was a simple formality.
This NAS perfectly fulfils the functions I'm interested in, namely backing up my personal data and photos and sharing them securely. The advantage of a NAS over the cloud is that the cloud is in your home and not in the home of someone else who could read your data without your consent.
The hardware itself is very well conceived, the design doesn't really matter to me even though I find it very well made and beautiful (but that's subjective and specific to each person). Above all, the design is in keeping with continuity, which I appreciate.
The fact that you can insert 6 hard drives and 4 M2 format drives is a plus. I have no use for the two 2.5 GB ports, as my network is currently on 1 GB, so I have no problems with speed or throughput. As I work a lot with images, this NAS corresponds perfectly to my needs. I should point out that my photos are on average between 60 and 80 MB each and that the large transfer volume is not hampered by a 1 GB connection.
I've owned NAS devices from Synology, Qnap and Asustor; I prefer the latter because of the quality of the machines (Lockerstor) and the fact that it's 'open' to other components. You won't get a message telling you that you've installed a particular brand of hardware, for example. Or, if you do, it's to tell you that the brand in question has implemented specific software for Asustor and that it's available (for Seagate IronWolf hard drives, for example).
In short, I can wholeheartedly recommend this very well-designed piece of equipment, which is easy to upgrade and a pleasure to use on a daily basis.
Before buying this NAS I took advice from LDLC.
The ASUSTOR LOCKERSTOR 6 GEN 2 AS6706T NAS replaces the ASUSTOR AS-604T NAS purchased in May 2014.
I am still loyal to ASUSTOR because the AS 'AS-604-T worked perfectly well (it still works very well).
Equipped with 6 HDDs "Seagate IronWolf 8Tb each" in RAID 5; its integration in a local network was not a problem.
Online data entry via the Windows 11 browser, after SMB declaration, avoids the use of the NAS ADM interface.
The NAS was ordered on October 05, 2022 and arrived in perfect condition on October 06, 2022 via Chronopost; as usual LDLC lives up to their reputation, well done!
