The TR-004 from QNAP is a RAID enclosure for 4 2.5"/3.5" hard disks or SSDs with two operating modes. It can be used as an expansion unit by being connected to a NAS to extend storage capacity or directly to a PC for use as an external USB 3.0 enclosure.

The TR-004 is an ideal storage expansion solution for PCs and especially laptops with limited storage capacity.Equipped with four 3.5-inch SATA disk bays and supporting RAID 0/1/5/10 modes, the TR-004 offers the possibility of storing a large number of files and data and providing protection against possible disk failures.
The TR-004 supports a variety of RAID configurations. Depending on your needs, you can switch between hardware- and software-controlled RAID modes. Move the DIP switches to the positions corresponding to your ideal RAID mode: individual, JBOD, RAID 0, RAID 1/10 or RAID 5. You can also configure RAID settings from your QNAP NAS or using the QNAP External RAID Manager utility on a PC.
As an external RAID device, the TR-004 operates independently and does not require additional resources from the NAS system.Compared with the UX-500P expansion box, the TR-004 uses fewer NAS system resources, giving you a smoother user experience.
You can use the TR-004 as an additional storage device for backing up or moving data from your Qnap NAS, and it also allows you to easily migrate a huge volume of data that normally requires a lot of network bandwidth .Once connected to the NAS, you can monitor the health and status of the TR-004 using the Storage Manager on the NAS.
The TR-004 can quickly add storage space to your computer by connecting it via a USB 3.0 port. You can use the DIP switch to configure a hardware RAID mode or manage it using the QNAP External RAID Manager utility.The integrity and status of the TR-004 can also be monitored using the QNAP External RAID Manager utility.

Bought it to be able to recover old disks/ssd from previous machines.
It does the job as expected, very easy to use ... even a person without knowledge could install disks inside ...
The only downside was a faulty usb cable, but LDLC quickly replaced it and since then everything has been fine!
Delivery/advice etc... perfect for a change...

Box with 1 hardware RAID, so AUTONOMOUS
Used to back up NAS data, with the possibility of replaying data without proprietary software directly on a PC (NTFS-type formatting required).
RAID 5 easy to configure via rear switches, or via software with the QNAP RAID Manager app ==> If configured with the app, you're still in hardware RAID, so you can connect to any PC afterwards.
The product:
- QNAP RAID Manager is simple and effective, useful but basic. Gives less information than the NAS can get when connected to it.
- Disk trays very practical to assemble, but plastic... which is "normal" for the product's price range.
- Non-adjustable fan speed, but silent.
- The case isn't soundproofed, so you can hear the drives working when they're on full blast ;-) More than the fan, in any case!
- Good flow rates for my use
I'd recommend the product.
The QNAP enclosure is of excellent quality and works well, it is silent, the key locking of the bays is well thought out, and the materials are of exceptional quality. I recommend this item.
I use it for audiovisual post-production, all my rushes are stored on it and I use the box in individual disk mode.
It works really well, I think it's a top product!
