NUL, plastic bric-a-brac...............................................................................
Solid case and accepts both 2.5 and 3.5 inch discs.
Nothing else to say, really does the job.
Enclosure used with a Seagate BarraCuda 4Tb (ST4000DM004) 3.5" drive.
No problem with installation or use.
This enclosure is a combination of:
- a transparent semi-rigid plastic box.
- a sata to USB 3 adapter.
- a transformer to power the adapter.
And that's all. This is more than enough for me: use: occasional backup on external disk.
You don't have a way to fix the drive inside, so it floats a bit, especially for a 2.5 inch (I used pieces of plug).
The transformer also requires an electrical outlet but allows, I suppose, to run a disk whatever the power consumption.
The only defect in my eyes, the power supply cable is a little short (50cm?). In my case, this was not a problem because I have a power strip nearby, but I don't find it very practical.
The pros: Can accommodate 2.5" and 3.5" drives; no tools required; easy to use; construction seems pretty durable. The cons: 2.5" drives don't sit well in the case and float around a bit; SATA connector is not attached to the case.I would recommend this case if you want to change the drive it will accommodate on a regular basis (if you're doing data recovery for example). In this case, its versatility and the fact that it does not require tools will be significant assets, and the fact that the 2.5" drives are not well wedged will not matter.I do not recommend it to host a specific 2.5" storage device permanently.
The product works well, so I can't complain about it from that point of view.
However, if I had known that the quality of the plastics and the connection system would be so poor, I would probably have bought a more expensive product. There is a bit of play in the SATA connection, and the way the USB cable is attached to the case and the drive does not inspire me with confidence in terms of durability. I would probably recommend a more expensive product for long term use, but this product is fine if it's for occasional use or if the purpose is to change the drive content regularly (it's very easy to insert or remove a drive, no screws required).
The product claims to be compatible with 2.5" and 3.5" disks, and this is technically true, but I don't recommend using it with a 2.5" disk, it's very shaky.
