ES2486dc NAS: NAS Optimized for Online Deduplication and 100% Flash Applications
QNAP's ES2486dc Enterprise ZFS NAS is the manufacturer's first high availability NAS with 100% flash bays and two active controllers. Powered by an 8-core, 16-thread Intel Xeon D-2142IT processor, the ES2486dc supports up to 24 2.5-inch 12Gbps SAS SSDs. The random write performance for 100% flash arrays is further optimised by theQNAP Enterprise Storage (QES) operating system. Combined with virtually unlimited snapshots and SnapSync for data protection, the QES-based ES2486dc meets demanding business applications such as mission-critical file servers, virtualisation servers, VDI, mid-sized data centres, streaming video, surveillance storage and backup.
Dual Active-Active Controller System
In the active-active storage system architecture, both controllers can provide a full range of services, which is different from the active-standby architecture of single-controller systems. The advantage of the Active-Active architecture is the allocation of resources for computational loads.
In addition to the conservation of computing resources, a high-speed, uninterrupted and highly available storage service is made possible by means of communication protocols such as SMB, NFS and iSCSI.
PCIe expansion for 25 GbE/40 GbE high-speed networks
The ES2486dc has two PCIe Gen 3.0 x8 slots connected to the processor, allowing you to install high-speed 10 GbE, 25 GbE or 40 GbE network cards to boost virtualisation, media streaming and other bandwidth-intensive applications. Installing an iSER-enabled network interface card (NIC) can improve VMware virtualization performance. You can also install a SAS expansion card (SAS-12G2E) to connect up to seven expansion enclosures to 16 EJ1600 v2 arrays to seamlessly expand potential storage capacity to more than 1 PB.
ZFS-based QES operating system
The ES2486dc is equipped with QES (QNAP Enterprise Storage) operating system based on the simple and efficient FreeBSD kernel and ZFS file system for high-end enterprise applications. QES not only provides reliable, enterprise-class recovery and protection features, but it is also optimized for Flash storage to improve the performance of 100% Flash storage arrays, accelerating mission-critical services and eliminating challenges in VDI environments. QES also comes with quality of service (QoS) capabilities to ensure consistent primary storage performance in multi-application environments.
Self-healing ensures data integrity and reliability
Designed with a focus on data integrity, the QES-based ES2486dc uses its end-to-end checksums to detect and correct silent data corruption caused by hardware faults, firmware bugs or metadata errors. If data integrity violations are detected, QES automatically repairs the data with data from the other mirror before passing it on to applications.

Virtualisation Support
The ES2486dc supports VMware vSphere 6.5, Windows Server 2019 and Citrix XenServer 7.0 for flexible deployment and management in virtualisation environments. It also supports VMware VAAI and Microsof ODX to improve performance by offloading server load for ESXi server and Hyper-V, respectively. QNAP vSphere Client plug-in and Web plug-in are also supported to increase operations and management efficiency in virtualization applications. The ES2486dc and VMware ESXi server installed with iSER-supported smart network cards can gain iSER benefits to offload CPU workloads with enhanced VMware virtualization performance.
