The PCI-E (4x PCI) expansion box adds four external I/O expansion card slots to a desktop or notebook computer. The innovative PCI Express to PCI expansion chassis offers a quick and easy solution to I/O scalability on virtually any PCI Express (PCIe) compatible system. By adding external PCI slots to a server, workstation or notebook, this fast and cost-effective method of adding only additional PCI cards to a server or workstation, or providing a platform for swapping PCI expansion cards between a fixed and mobile configuration, is ideal for optimising the I/O capabilities of new or existing systems.
The external expansion chassis allows four PCI slots (32 bit/33MHz) to be added to a host computer via a single PCI Express connection. The chassis provides a total bandwidth of up to 250 MBps from the PCIe x1 host controller card, allowing the host computer to operate as if the cards in the expansion chassis were directly connected to the motherboard. For mobile applications, the expansion chassis can be connected to an ExpressCard-enabled laptop using a connection cable(not included), which provides the same functionality as installing the expansion chassis on a laptop. This eliminates the cost and need to purchase different card adapters for the laptop.
