Overview

TS-h765eU: 1U shallow NAS with E1.S/M.2 slots

The QNAP TS-h765eU-8G is a 1U rackmount NAS server equipped with 8GB of DDR5 RAM, an Intel Atom x7405C Quad-Core processor, 4 bays for 2.5"/3.5" SATA 6 Gbps disks and 2.5 GbE network connectivity , as well as 3 E1.S/M.2 slots for SSD caching or setting up a storage pool. slots for SSD caching or storage pooling. The shallow, compact design makes it easy to install in small media cabinets or locations with lots of cables.

Quad-core processor

The TS-h765eU-8G is powered by a Quad-Core I Intel Atom x7405C processor (capable of upgrading to 3.4 GHz) with 8 GB of DDR5 memory expandable to 16 GB. Thanks to the Intel AES-NI encryption engine, the TS-h765eU delivers unrivalled encryption performance with AESAES-256 bit encryption, which boosts system performance while ensuring the security of sensitive business data stored on the NAS.

Easy expansion with slots

The TS-h765eU comes standard with three E1.S / M.2 PCIe NVMe slots that give the NAS the flexibility to improve performance, with 3 possible uses:

  • Use the E1.S/ M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD storage pool as a QuTS hero system drive for optimal NAS system performance, efficient application metadata management and optimised database operations.
  • Create E1.S/ M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD volumes to boost data-intensive transfer and access performance.
  • Install E1.S / M.2 PCIe NVMe SSDs and enable SSD caching to reduce latency and improve random read/write efficiency (IOPS) for small files.

You can also purchase the QXG-ES10G1T network module separately for 10Gbps network connectivity.

    QNAP, no surprise

After 5 years with a TS-231K, I needed more: NVMe support for a pool of storage, not just caching. Few NAS devices offer this, except for this just-released model, which meets my expectations perfectly. Software: QTS Hero, reliable as usual. Hardware: solid overall, but with a few limitations. NVMe is limited to PCIe Gen3 x2, which restricts throughput. Officially limited to 16 GB of RAM, although the CPU supports 32 GB; a 16 GB strip was recognised without a hitch. The interior is well designed, except for the air guide, which is very basic. One big disappointment is the brightness of the front LEDs, which are virtually invisible in the rack. Quality fans, silent even at 10k rpm. In short, a reliable machine that's unique on the market, a little expensive, but with no real competition. It's a pity there's no 'RP' version with redundant power supply.
