QNAP, no surprise
After 5 years with a TS-231K, I needed more: NVMe support for a pool of storage, not just caching. Few NAS devices offer this, except for this just-released model, which meets my expectations perfectly. Software: QTS Hero, reliable as usual. Hardware: solid overall, but with a few limitations. NVMe is limited to PCIe Gen3 x2, which restricts throughput. Officially limited to 16 GB of RAM, although the CPU supports 32 GB; a 16 GB strip was recognised without a hitch. The interior is well designed, except for the air guide, which is very basic. One big disappointment is the brightness of the front LEDs, which are virtually invisible in the rack. Quality fans, silent even at 10k rpm. In short, a reliable machine that's unique on the market, a little expensive, but with no real competition. It's a pity there's no 'RP' version with redundant power supply.
