The StarTech.com 10P6G-PCIE-SATA-CARD is a PCI Express 2.0 (x2) expansion card that adds up to 10 SATA III 6Gbps ports to a computer or server, ideal for expanding internal storage capacities. It features easy installation, support for multiple major operating systems and enhanced hardware compatibility thanks to the absence of built-in hardware RAID.
The card is based on the ASM1062 controller, offering a combined bandwidth of up to 8 Gbps thanks to the use of two port-multipliers. It offers broad compatibility with operating systems such as Windows (7 to 11), macOS (10.10+) and Linux (2.6.32+), while supporting port multiplication and NCQ (Native Command Queuing). The card also offers backward compatibility with the SATA I/II and PCIe 1 generations, although naturally at reduced performance. What's more, it operates in software RAID mode via integrated tools (Storage Spaces, RAID Assistant, mdraid/mdadm), while including pre-installed full-profile support as well as optional low-profile support for compact chassis. What a joy! In addition to the 6 SATA ports on the motherboard, this generous expansion card gives me a total of 16 mass storage units for my personal file server. I haven't tried raiding with it, I use linux's LVM aggregation which is happy to harmonize all these ports. I'm delighted.
