Overview
Cisco Systems
Perfect for small and medium-sized networks, Cisco Aironet 1850 access points deliver industry-leading performance to enterprises and telecom operators with 4x4 MIMO technology and four spatial beams that support IEEE 802.11ac in its second phase of development. With its Aironet 1850 access points, Cisco is extending support to a new generation of Wi-Fi clients, such as high-performance smartphones, tablets, and laptops, that are compatible with the 802.11ac Phase 1 or Phase 2 communications standard.
With support for 802.11ac Phase 2, Aironet 1850 access points offer up to 1.7 Gbps throughput in the 5 GHz frequency band, more than three times the speeds currently offered by high-end 802.11n access points. They also offer an aggregate dual-band throughput of more than 2 Gbps, giving enterprise and carrier networks the structure to stay ahead of their users' performance and bandwidth expectations and requirements.
Wireless access is now the most popular way to connect to the network in the enterprise. With this new trend comes the requirement that the wireless connection does not slow down the daily work of the users, but instead provides them with a high quality of experience and freedom to move around. The Aironet 1850 wireless access points offer state-of-the-art performance for reliable and secure wireless connections and a robust mobility experience based on the following technologies:
4x4 Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) technology featuring 802.11ac Phase 2 with four spatial beams in single-user MIMO mode and three spatial beams in multi-user MIMO mode, delivering 1.7 Gbps throughput for greater capacity and reliability than competitive access points.
Multi-user MIMO technology allows simultaneous data transmission to multiple 802.11ac Phase 2clients for an optimal experience. Prior to multi-user MIMO, access points based on 802.11n and 802.11ac Phase 1 standards could transfer data to only one client at a time (single-user MIMO).
Beamforming, also known as spatial filtering or beamforming, is a technique for improving downlink performance to mobile terminals, including 802.11ac-based single-, dual- and triple-stream spatial devices. At the same time, this technology also improves the battery life of mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets. All of these features ensure that users have the best possible experience on the wireless network. Cisco also offers the widest selection of 802.11n and 802.11ac antennas on the market, ensuring optimal coverage for any deployment.

In the Cisco Mobility Express deployment mode, an Aironet 1830 or 1850 acts as the central virtual controller for configuring and monitoring the Wi-Fi network: the Wi-Fi terminal with this role is referred to as the "Master". Any other 1800 registered to the master can take over the role at any time, should the original master no longer be reachable. Wi-Fi terminals from other ranges (700, 1600, 1700, 2600, 2700, 3600 and 3700) can register to the master of the 1800 range, but these other models do not support the master role themselves.
