300 Mbps WiFi N access point / router Open source Linux

Overview

The D-Link DAP-1360 is a wireless access point that complies with the IEEE 802.11n standard. By connecting the DAP-1360 to a broadband router, you will be able to share your wireless broadband Internet access and create a secure wireless network to share photos, files, music, video, printers and storage devices.

Linux platform
Using the Realtek RTL8186 chipset, the DAP-1360 can be upgraded with custom firmware based on the supplied SDK. This allows programmers to make full use of the 2MB Flash memory and 16MB SDRAM to include the advanced features of their choice.

With Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) technology, you can configure your wireless security system at the touch of a button.

Versatility of use in different applications
The DAP-1360 can be configured to function as an access point to serve as a central hub for wireless users, an access point client to connect to another access point, a workgroup bridge to connect two wireless workgroups, a workgroup bridge with an access point to serve as a wireless hub and bridge at the same time, and a repeater to extend wireless coverage to all "dead zones".
In addition, two WISP (Wireless Internet Service Provider) modes are supported, which could allow multiple households to share a single wireless Internet connection without an additional router: the WISP client router and the WISP repeater, to connect wired-only or wired/wireless computers respectively.
  • WLAN 802.11n standard, high speed and optimal coverage
  • 7 operating modes
  • Easy installation of the security system at the touch of a button (WPS)
  • Simplified configuration available in 18 languages with D-Link Click'n Connect Wizard
  • Open source Linux platform (Realtek RTL8651C and RTL8190 chipset)
  • Wi-Fi power-saving scheduling feature

    Not functional in WIFI relay

I bought a wall-mounted version of the DAP-1365 as a replacement for a DAP-1365, which worked very well and served as a WIFI relay.

I received the F1 version at HARDWARE level. The flashing in OPENWRT is not possible (flash too small, a variant exists but not in F1 version...).

The 1st installation must be done by RJ45 with the WIFI of the PC cut (IMPORTANT) then it is necessary to enter the address of the router http://dlinkap. ( only one "P" + the dot "." )

The notice is succinct, the interface in ENGLISH (not embarrassing it's simple) but the language packages to load are not present on the DLINK site just like the detailed notice (the customer service, reactive, directed me: ftp://ftp.dlink.de/dap/dap-1360/documentation/DAP-1360_man_revf_Manuel_fr.pdf ))

The problem is that in WIFI relay use, the DAP-1360 only proposes the creation of an SSID identical to the one you want to amplify and not a new different SSID. Moral: there is a conflict under WIN10, when one wants to connect on the strongest SSID ( yes the SSID appears in double, it is not a separation 2.4-5.0 Ghz, by deduction one takes the strongest signal) one arrives at a message "no Internet" in spite of it manages to connect ( without key WPA, curious ) and the 5 bars of reception whereas the DAP-1365 did it very well with a new SSID!

Useless, considering the price, no desire to lose time SAV and return, it will end up at the bottom of a wardrobe!

    Unsatisfactory

This access point has several negative points:
    - the configuration: it's a horror! The automatic protocol does not work and I had to look for the IP address for a manual configuration on the forums (which I believe to be 192.168.0.50)
    - The quality of the signal did not satisfy me and I did not reach the expected speeds (config in Wifi client to connect an outbuilding).

I changed for the TP-LINK TL-WA901ND and there nothing to see! Moreover, I am globally much more satisfied by the TP-LINK brand and I will not be asked to go elsewhere again!

    Works

This router does its job, no throughput problems, however, I found the installation complicated with my mac, I had to use this video which worked very well for me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M3nkZAkcoJk&t=182s

    Not very efficient...

The set-up is not easy even with the assistance of DLink technical service. The technician forgot to restart the PC after changing the address...
I'm disappointed about the range. There are about 40 metres between the box and the garage I want to connect and, even if I place the equipment halfway, it doesn't always work.

    Impossible configuration for beginners

Yes, you have to go to the DLink website to find the information: this AP is delivered with a factory IP configuration of 192.168.0.50 so if you are on a 192.168.1.X network you will have no chance of finding the website with the URL http://dlinkap.
Then you have to update the firmware to F1 6.11 which is also available on the dlink website.
Then it seems to work better than my box sfr which has difficulty in routing the wifi permanently (forced reconnections thus painful).
