We're clearly in the top 2 of monitors at the moment, with Sony being a more or less equal rival. Super-sharp image, very well calibrated screen in Racing mode, just needed to increase the brightness a little, for artists who also do gaming it's a safe bet. Oled on the PC is a game changer, I won't be going back, that's for sure.
However, don't expect 480Hz in every situation, it's unstable on certain games with G-sync activated, it plays with the bandwidth limits of current cables. And to get the most out of it, you have to make concessions. Like enabling DSC, which doesn't allow you to create custom frequencies, or enabling anti-flicker for G-sync. So, personally, I've deactivated DSC and locked it at 240Hz. In any case, 480Hz is a load of rubbish, there's no point.
Otherwise, as I said, it's the best of the best.
I finally received the ASUS PG27AQDP monitor after a long wait. The delivery went well, although DPD were three days later than originally promised. The parcel was sent without an extra box, which worried me as the box was damaged on the screen side. I even feared that the screen was broken, as the impact was visible through the plastic protection. Fortunately, this was not the case: the screen works.
I carried out a firmware update without any problems. Overall, the monitor is impressive, as expected for an OLED screen: superb colours, plenty of adjustment options, HDR that works very well, and exceptional fluidity with 480 Hz. The experience is really fast and crisp, and I can't get enough of it for gaming.
However, I did encounter a few drawbacks. VRR (with FreeSync or G-Sync) is unusable for me due to very noticeable flickering, which becomes really annoying. Fortunately, the OLED Anti-Flicker option alleviates this problem, although it limits the Hz frequency range. This is still acceptable to me.
The main problem is that, when I quit a game, the screen temporarily goes black because of the DSC (which is normal). But with VRR enabled, the screen stays black indefinitely: even the OSD menu no longer works. I have to manually restart the screen to get an image back, which is very frustrating. Perhaps this problem is specific to my monitor? Or could it be fixed with a future firmware update?
This screen is perfect, which is fortunate given its price. Firstly, the panel: it's magnificent. The image is perfectly managed (1440p native) and the contrasts are well marked, the blacks are very deep and given that it's a Woled panel there's no problem with the qd which gives a pink/purple appearance to the blacks when they're overexposed. The look of the product: very high quality, the materials are all very good, although it's a bit regrettable that the arm isn't made of metal like the stand. The rgb, although very nice, is a bit annoying during night sessions (the big logo below the stand), but that's no problem as you can deactivate it from the screen menu (you can also choose which part to switch off and which part to keep on). Let's talk about the interface: it's very easy to use and lets you manage a lot of the screen's settings, including HDR, contrast, brightness, etc. However, it's a bit complex to understand, as I personally have a hard time activating the sniper mode in the screen's ia, but don't panic, there are lots of tutorials on the internet, particularly on the most opti settings. The refresh rate and latency: it all depends on your style of games and how good you are at them, but while low latency is very nice, 480hz is slightly overkill on most games. It's still appreciable, however, and can be felt on games like Valorant, where it's not very difficult to hit 400-500 fps, provided you have a good configuration.
All in all, it's the perfect screen for any gamer (who can afford it), and especially for those playing competitive games (where reaction time plays a big part), provided of course that you have a big system capable of getting the most out of the screen, given its price. (My configuration for testing this screen: i7 14700KF rtx 4070 Super; I consider this configuration ideal for 1440p gaming and therefore almost perfectly suited to this screen).
After almost a month's wait, the screen finally arrived and I was able to play a few dozen games to test it out.
Performance-wise, there's nothing to say, the 480Hz is really top-notch, and the responsiveness felt in-game is impressive.
The tricky part is figuring out how to adjust the brightness and visual settings.
