    Did not work for very long

    This hard drive lasted 3 years for me before making strange noises (compared with more than 10 years for other hard drives that still work), showing me signs of what seems to be wear.
    The activation (startup) latency of this hard drive was longer than others too (which for those others was almost instantaneous), forced to go through a program to disable it (and removing itself at each shutdown of the PC).
    And this one made a lot of noise during file transfers and other writes (compared with no noise on the others)
    In short, choosing a basic hard drive is much more reliable.

    Excellent product

    This 12TB drive is immediately recognised by Windows 11 and formatted in GPT. The capacity of the drive drops from 12TB to 11.178TB, i.e. almost 800GB of unused volume. I had anticipated this and ordered a 12TB instead of a 10TB. File transfer speed varies between 205 and 235 MB/s. There's no noise and it writes and reads just the same. My previous 4Tb Western Digital HDD never failed in 3 years, and is still under warranty for 2 more years, like this new 12Tb. I have trusted Western Digital for over 16 years and recommend their products.

    Fast and good value for money

    Heats up less than the 1st one I bought 2 years ago (48° vs 51° after several hours of transfer, hard drive on usb dock so not ventilated). Recognised by my LDLC and inovu usb docks. Good transfer rate (190Mb/sec on average with peaks at 210Mb/sec, the 1st one I bought had peaks at 195Mb/sec and an average of 180Mb/sec but it wasn't the same source drive, and my configuration isn't new any more, core i7 4790K). Good To/price ratio (I took advantage of a promotion like for the 1st, it's a shame you can't choose in-store delivery any more). Generally quite quiet, but you can hear it scratching at times even if you're not accessing the drive (it's still noisier than the 22TB version that I also own). The ultrastars are very robust, I have 5 of them, one of which is 12TB and has been running 16/24 and 7/7 for 2 years and it's fine (remember to register on the WD site to benefit from the 5 year guarantee). Delivery a little long, ordered on Monday afternoon and received on Saturday morning (but during the promotional period, it's usually quicker).
