    Very good for the price

    I had bought the predecessor of this adapter in March 2016 which only accepted 2.5" SATA drives and I am still happy with it today. For some rarely seen family who I needed to give photos of birthdays, anniversaries etc that they had not been able to attend in recent years, I bought this adapter to reuse a 2.5" hard drive as an external hard drive.
    Everything works immediately, transfer speeds are good, no heating problems, all drives tested are recognized. I also tested a 3.5" drive with the included power adapter, no problem. I've even been able to plug in an internal CD player if I wanted to.
    This product is delivered in a small cardboard box that is easy to transport, I advise you to take an USB 3.0 extension cable as well because the wire is quite short (about 10cm). No risk of being disappointed, go for it!

    perfect with ubuntu, winXP and DVR. problems with Win10

    3.5" disk recognized right away with winXP and Ubuntu, formatting, mounting, everything works. However, with win10 + USB2, on a Dell PC, the disk connects/disconnects every 10 seconds or so and blocks Windows. After trying, and changing the USB port, it finally worked, but when running a performance test in 8k blocks it disconnects again. I have seen on other forums users having problems with win10 as well.
    One good point: when the usb turns off, the drive stops spinning, so no need to turn off the power.
    The cable is very short but seems solid. The SATA connector is not locked to the drive, so move the drive with care.

    I plugged in my 2TB HDD (internal, 3.5") containing an NTFS partition and an ext4 partition. I was able to read these 2 partitions without any problem.

    But indeed, the cable is very short and quite stiff. It is not very practical.
