Overview

Dual-Band ADSL/VDSL Modem-Router AC1900

The Asus DSL-AC68U is an ADSL/VDSL modem router that offers two frequency bands capable of a total speed of 1900 Mb/s. On the 5 GHz band, the 802.11ac standard offers a Wi-Fi speed of 1300 Mb/s, while Broadcom TurboQAM technology boosts the performance of the 802.11n connection on the 2.4 GHz band, increasing the speed from 450 Mb/s to 600 Mb/s on compatible devices. Working with ADSL, ADSL2/2+, VDSL2, fibre and cable connection services, the DSL-AC68U provides a durable home networking solution that will perfectly suit the needs of future devices.

The DSL-AC68U uses three external antennas to boost Wi-Fi coverage and ensure smooth gaming and streaming throughout the home. The AiRadar technology also features beamforming, which intelligently amplifies the Wi-Fi signal without losing power, providing up to 150% better coverage than standard routers. Better still, beamforming can even improve the signal strength and performance of older 802.11a/b/g/n routers.

Two processors for a fast and stable connection

For flexibility of use, the DSL-AC68U is equipped with two processors that optimise both the wired and the Wi-Fi connection. By separating the wired VDSL/ADSL connection and the Wi-Fi connection into two modules with their own processing power, the DSL-AC68U ensures uncompromised performance for both types of connection.

The ASUS DSL-AC68U router supports 802.11ac Wi-Fi, also known as 5G Wi-Fi for fifth generation, and is therefore capable ofan ultra-fast Gigabit wireless connection. The DSL-AC68U delivers 1.3 Gbps throughput in the 5 GHz band, which is three times faster than an 802.11n router. With computers, tablets and smartphones now all Wi-Fi enabled, it's time to upgrade to the next generation of routers to enjoy a better connection now and in the years to come.

Fast internet browsing

Equipped with a hardware NAT acceleration engine and an integrated Gigabit Ethernet port, the DSL-AC68U gives you an ultra-fast internet connection, with a WAN-to-LAN throughput of over 900Mbps, which is 4.5 times faster than competing Gigabit routers with a standard software NAT mechanism. This high throughput ensures fewer bottlenecks on fast Internet connections.

The DSL-AC68U supports 3 wireless networks on its 2.4 GHz frequency and 3 on its 5 GHz frequency. Thus, the DSL-AC68U can protect your computer from unauthorised access, hackers and viruses. The parental control feature will prevent your children from accessing prohibited websites and limit their connection time.

Sync. Share. Share.

ASUS AiCloud works with ASUS routers to provide the most comprehensive, accessible and secure cloud computing platform. It's a free app for iOS and Android devices. It allows you to easily sync, share, stream and access all your content from anywhere. It creates your own private cloud server at home, and connects seamlessly with the public cloud.

Sharing is easier than ever with confidential links that can be sent via email, SMS and more.

Download and distribute anywhere

The Download Master manager and enhanced media server allow you to download and play media files stored on the USB device attached to the router on a wide variety of compatible devices, such as PC, tablet, PS4, Xbox and Smart TV.

Download Master can also download files while your computer is turned off, and allows you to manage and monitor the download status remotely.

Main features:

  • Modem router with DSL WAN port and Ethernet WAN/LAN ports
  • Compatible with ADSL, ADSL2/2+, VDSL2 connection services
  • Maximum throughput on both frequency bands of 1900 Mb/s for smooth streaming of 4K/HD video, gaming and other bandwidth intensive tasks
  • Two different processors for wired and Wi-Fi connections for greater coverage and stability
  • AiRadar for enhanced signal in all directions and 150% better coverage
  • Multifunctional USB 3.0 port for file sharing, printer connection, 3G/4G dongle sharing and media streaming

Do not buy an Asus router (see...)

10 months of trouble with Asus support.
Admittedly they respond quickly but .... doesn't provide a solution.

Hell to make work with a TP-Link repeater and with white list filtering.
Everything works without filtering but nothing as soon as the list is activated.

Worse still, after another weekend of trying to get it to work, the whitelist connection finally worked (without understanding why - all I could do was change and go back to the wifi settings), but the 5Ghz was no longer transmitting for any device!!!! While of course 5 GHz was working before...
Of course, deleting the white lists doesn't change anything.
And it's not as if the Internet is full of posts about this 5GHz problem.

Asus' response after 10 months: it's no longer supported!

So NEVER BUY an Asus network product!
    See.....

    Very good modem-router.

Bought in 2018 I am upgrading my review.
The product is very regularly updated and gives me complete satisfaction.
It is compatible with ADSL and fibre, has a very good speed in Wi-Fi, a very stable signal, "guest" networks to avoid that it looks on my NAS and other devices, in short, an excellent product that I recommend.
It requires a little bit of knowledge for some functions but remains a good product despite the years.

    Good product

I received my order quickly and efficiently, the only downside was that I had to pay the carrier again.
Good product, clear and simple interface. I've been using it for a while now and I'm very happy with it.
I'll give myself time to see all its potentialities.

Reliable connection, but little documentation and poor wifi range

As a replacement for an orange livebox, the start-up was a bit laborious. The documentation is much, much too brief and unfortunately there is not much on the internet...
After finally getting my setup right, I have to admit that the connection is more stable than before! The network customization is also much better.
Another negative point is that the range of the wifi is barely greater than that of the livebox. I would have thought that I would have gained on this but in the end it's negligible!
I'm not sure I'd recommend this model if you're not very comfortable with configuring a network, but otherwise it's a good product.

    Very good material

I really liked the quick and easy DSL configuration: everything was done automatically, what a relief compared to our old Netgear which was 15 years old and no longer held. The only downside is that we have a very old and unstable ADSL line, and at peak times the speeds drop so much (and the line noise increases) that the wifi tends to cut out because the internet connection has momentarily "jumped". We had hoped that this box would improve the problem but no. So, we can't wait to switch to fibre, but we're happy with the equipment because we don't have to reboot the machine 15 times a day to get the net.

Relatively powerful and easy to use router

I've been using the Livebox for a while now and it's a great service. I've been using it for a while and it's a great service.

I couldn't get the VPN to work and I installed the Merlin firmware and since then everything is ok. I can even use several VPNs at the same time.

I'm not sure if it's a good idea to use the Time Machine function, but I can only do the initial backup, the following backups are not done: "Backup disk not available" although it does appear in the Finder.

    Very satisfied

Having already had D-Link, Linksys and netgear modem-router, and having never found my happiness in their range in the long term, I decided to change and go for Asus, a brand of which I have a lot of products, and with which I have never had any problem. I've had it for a good 2 months now, and I'm fully satisfied.
The interface is quite simple but complete and fast. I had no problem getting used to it.
It works very well with OVH ADSL.
The only problem I had was to reconfigure the IP of my devices, as it did not want to take into account the change from 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.0.255.
I think I'll stick with Asus if I ever need to change this equipment.

    Best all-in-one modem/router

I bought this modem/router to replace my old one which had become very slow.
After a week of use, I have to say that it rivals the best for power, speed while incorporating a future proof VDSL2 modem and combining that with an intuitive setup and a distinctive, well built design. As such, it is the best all-in-one router I've had to date.

    Great!

Nurse, having installed a NAS as a document server. And the livebox was struggling to access my files. No more problems. It works.
And the local wifi access is super fast.
    I can only recommend it.
