The Designed by GG Ironclad v3 is a top-of-the-range keyboard offering enhanced typing comfort. Its gasket mount structure and original lubricated mechanical switches provide a silent, resonance-free typing experience. It features hot-swappable switches to extend the life of the keyboard, as well as Open Source firmware that lets users make the hardware their own.
Ironclad v3 offers simple, high-performance original firmware. With an intuitive driver, you can customise keyboard backlighting, reassign keys and create macros with ease. It's the ideal solution for novice users looking for a simple, functional keyboard. For power users, the keyboard is compatible with the Open Source QMK firmware (Fork SonixQMK). This makes it possible to create advanced shortcuts on several layers, modify the functions of the scroll wheel, and generally have total control over the keyboard.
Finally, for gamers looking for speed, there's a third firmware optimised for celerity. By sacrificing the RGB lighting and reassigning the hardware clock to the matrix scan, you get a scanning frequency of 6,000 Hz, so that keystrokes can be detected in milliseconds, every millisecond (the USB frequency remains at 1,000Hz, so this feature simply ensures that keystrokes are detected in milliseconds). Freely interchangeable, the firmware installation is completely reversible. If you install faulty firmware, you can use a button to force the keyboard to restart in bootloader mode and reinstall stable firmware.
The factory-lubricated switches provide a smooth, silent keystroke and eliminate resonance. The stabilisers are lubricated with PFPE-based grease and do not reflect metallic echoes. The noisy scraping of the space bar will be a memory of another era. The keys are made from PBT, giving you extra resistance to abrasion. Unlike ABS keys, PBT is chemically inert when it comes into contact with the skin and doesn't take on a greasy texture after prolonged use.
What's more, the lettering on the keys is thermoformed, so they're not just etched in surface paint. They are formed by a plastic structure running through the entire shell. This method ensures that the lettering will last over time.
Red Blood switches benefit from an optimised construction. They use high-quality plastic from Germany's BASF, and are gently machine-lubricated with a PFPE-based grease. The central part, the stem, is factory-polished for virtually frictionless glide.
They're ideal for people who want silence and fatigue-free gripping.

I'd had a Steelseries mechanical keyboard for 7 years. The difference in typing feel is striking. The PBT of the keys is very pleasant. The typing feel is incomparable. I was desperate to get my hands on a custom QWERTY keyboard, and this keyboard was the solution for me. Excellent value for money. I recommend the linear switches for gaming.
I love this keyboard, the comfortable typing experience and the fact that it's much quieter than the Champion Bane from the same brand (which I've been using for 2 years and which still works).
I took the version with the red switches.
Positive points:
=> Comfortable typing + keys that aren't too noisy for a mechanical keyboard.
=> The thumbwheel on the side of the keyboard that lets you turn the volume up or down, and the "Cal" key above the numeric keypad that opens the calculator.
=> With the tool that comes with the keyboard, you can remove a key in 2 seconds, as well as the switch underneath (switches aren't that common, they're often soldered on, so this is a real plus).
=> The PBT keys ensure that the letters won't fade over time.
=> The USB-C cable on the keyboard side is detachable (and holds very well).
=> A solid feel when you hold it in your hand. It's actually quite heavy.
Negative points :
=> The special characters under the numbers (those above azertyuiop) are not backlit.
=> I would have liked a manual for managing the backlighting when you don't want to install the firmware. The good thing is that I managed to adjust it by searching (by pressing FN + Insert to choose between static and other modes. Then using FN + left/right arrows, I was able to choose the colour. The Up/Down arrows let you adjust the brightness intensity). I chose a static white backlight for a sober effect (note that depending on the angle from which you look, the white is slightly pink).
Others :
=> I can't judge the firmware, which I preferred not to install.
In short, a very nice keyboard that has nothing to envy from the big brands, quite the contrary.
I bought both versions of this keyboard (brown and red).
Opinion given after a week's use:
- exudes quality ;
- sober ;
- the red version is particularly quiet;
- the side-mounted sound wheel is practical, as is the universal USB-C connection;
- durable product thanks to standard keycaps and spare switch kit.
The configuration software is simple and very light. A profile selection option based on the application running would be a real plus.
A real pleasure to have bought this French-designed product.
This keyboard doesn't steal its reputation, it's sensational. I'm used to Razers keyboards, which although decent, lack finish considering the price they're sold for. This keyboard exceeds my expectations, it exudes quality. It's quite heavy, which is nice, it won't slide around on its own.
I'd never typed on a mechanical keyboard with lubricated switches before, and that changes everything. The typing feel is great, and I don't get that weird squeaking noise I used to get on my old Razer keyboard.
I was hoping for a new silent mechanical keyboard, but my noisy mechanical keyboard phase has finally passed, and I'm not at all disappointed with this Ironclad. A few YouTube videos convinced me and it's actually very pleasant to the ear.
Finally, it's possible to set the RGBs by downloading a utility from the site for those who are interested. I've set my RGB to static because I don't like it too flashy, and it suits me perfectly.
In short, I'm very happy with my purchase, and I'll be buying my next keyboards from Designed by GG from now on.
Unbeatable value for money, and as 'French' a product as it's possible to make these days (design, specifications, packaging, etc.).
Coming from a ducky that was already really good, I wasn't expecting such a gap. The Ironclad's typing quality is really a step up. The keyboard is all plastic but the feel and touch are very good, the keyboard is heavy, there's no plastic noise, it's very rigid and doesn't move around on the desk. In short, I'd recommend it. It's expensive, but not that expensive compared with the competition, given the quality of the product.
