I'm switching from a Logitech G19 keyboard to this wonderful Designed by GG Ironclad V3 and it's night and day. I received the package in a few days, on the date indicated in the delivery tracking, and it was very well packaged. So thank you LDLC for the seriousness and speed.
I'd had a Steelseries mechanical keyboard for 7 years. The difference in typing feel is striking. The PBT of the keys is very pleasant. The typing feel is incomparable. I was desperate to get my hands on a custom QWERTY keyboard, and this keyboard was the solution for me. Excellent value for money. I recommend the linear switches for gaming.
I love this keyboard, the comfortable typing experience and the fact that it's much quieter than the Champion Bane from the same brand (which I've been using for 2 years and which still works).
I took the version with the red switches.
Positive points:
=> Comfortable typing + keys that aren't too noisy for a mechanical keyboard.
=> The thumbwheel on the side of the keyboard that lets you turn the volume up or down, and the "Cal" key above the numeric keypad that opens the calculator.
=> With the tool that comes with the keyboard, you can remove a key in 2 seconds, as well as the switch underneath (switches aren't that common, they're often soldered on, so this is a real plus).
=> The PBT keys ensure that the letters won't fade over time.
=> The USB-C cable on the keyboard side is detachable (and holds very well).
=> A solid feel when you hold it in your hand. It's actually quite heavy.
Negative points :
=> The special characters under the numbers (those above azertyuiop) are not backlit.
=> I would have liked a manual for managing the backlighting when you don't want to install the firmware. The good thing is that I managed to adjust it by searching (by pressing FN + Insert to choose between static and other modes. Then using FN + left/right arrows, I was able to choose the colour. The Up/Down arrows let you adjust the brightness intensity). I chose a static white backlight for a sober effect (note that depending on the angle from which you look, the white is slightly pink).
Others :
=> I can't judge the firmware, which I preferred not to install.
In short, a very nice keyboard that has nothing to envy from the big brands, quite the contrary.
I bought both versions of this keyboard (brown and red).
Opinion given after a week's use:
- exudes quality ;
- sober ;
- the red version is particularly quiet;
- the side-mounted sound wheel is practical, as is the universal USB-C connection;
- durable product thanks to standard keycaps and spare switch kit.
The configuration software is simple and very light. A profile selection option based on the application running would be a real plus.
A real pleasure to have bought this French-designed product.
This keyboard doesn't steal its reputation, it's sensational. I'm used to Razers keyboards, which although decent, lack finish considering the price they're sold for. This keyboard exceeds my expectations, it exudes quality. It's quite heavy, which is nice, it won't slide around on its own.
I'd never typed on a mechanical keyboard with lubricated switches before, and that changes everything. The typing feel is great, and I don't get that weird squeaking noise I used to get on my old Razer keyboard.
I was hoping for a new silent mechanical keyboard, but my noisy mechanical keyboard phase has finally passed, and I'm not at all disappointed with this Ironclad. A few YouTube videos convinced me and it's actually very pleasant to the ear.
Finally, it's possible to set the RGBs by downloading a utility from the site for those who are interested. I've set my RGB to static because I don't like it too flashy, and it suits me perfectly.
In short, I'm very happy with my purchase, and I'll be buying my next keyboards from Designed by GG from now on.
Unbeatable value for money, and as 'French' a product as it's possible to make these days (design, specifications, packaging, etc.).
Coming from a ducky that was already really good, I wasn't expecting such a gap. The Ironclad's typing quality is really a step up. The keyboard is all plastic but the feel and touch are very good, the keyboard is heavy, there's no plastic noise, it's very rigid and doesn't move around on the desk. In short, I'd recommend it. It's expensive, but not that expensive compared with the competition, given the quality of the product.
I've owned a CM Storm Trigger for over 10 years now, and I've been very happy with it. But I've been looking for another keyboard out of the corner of my eye, because I wanted to move on to slightly more recent hardware that would correct the keyboard's few shortcomings: a mini USB connection that's sometimes temperamental, and a proprietary software application for customising the keyboard that's straight out of hell and now hard to find.
I had a fairly extensive list of requirements:
- A long-lasting mechanical keyboard with comfortable switches
- A detachable USB cable
- A keyboard with a numeric pad
- Backlighting (RGB or not, but once you've had a taste of it, it's hard to go back to a keyboard without)
- If possible, hotswap with changeable and relatively standard switches, to ensure a respectable lifespan if one of the switches breaks down
It was hard to find keyboards that met all these criteria at prices that weren't prohibitive.
But while searching LDLC, I came across the Ironclad, which met all these criteria and was also sold directly in a shop near me. I was able to quickly test the keyboards there, including its little brother the Berseker. And then it all happened: the feeling compared to the other mecha keyboards was incredible, so I didn't hesitate for more than 5 seconds and got the Ironclad without a second thought.
The feel is much better than keyboards from major brands costing over €200, the assembly is simple but extremely effective, and the software is simple, but the ability to flash the firmware in QMK in 1-click is the icing on the cake! Simple but effective documentation. An impression of rock-solid solidity. It remains to be seen how it will hold up over time, but I'm leaving confident!
In short, it's a great keyboard, so if you get the chance to try it out and you like the feel of the keys, look no further.
This is my first mechanical keyboard, so I don't have much to compare it with.
But in any case, it exudes quality, it's heavy and you can feel that it's been designed to last, and the switches are easy to remove and reassemble using the supplied pliers. When I go back to membrane keyboards at work, I feel like I'm back in the Stone Age.
It's also a pleasure to help a small French company rather than an American mastodon :)
In short, I'm really pleased with my purchase, I almost felt guilty about spending so much money one day on a keyboard, but in the end I don't regret it. The many good comments about this keyboard are, in my opinion, well-founded.
I bought this model after testing the Berserker for over 6 months and there's virtually nothing to say. This keyboard is beyond reproach, apart from the LEDs, which are a little weak for my taste, and the white displayed is more of a red-pink colour.
As for delivery, I live in Switzerland and I was pleased that this site offered home delivery. I took the "Express delivery Switzerland" option, and was expecting delivery in 2-3 days, but in the end it took a week...
I got into computers in 1983, so I've had a lot of keyboards under my fingers. This one is incredible: PBT keys, red blood switches with adjustable reactivity, fully customisable RGB, virtually silent keys (now that's something), a joy to use, easy-to-use software, a designer who takes the time to answer questions, a French keyboard that sends the competition back to keyboard design school.
TO TRY IT IS TO ADOPT IT
This keyboard is superior to the Duck brand and its Cherry MX Silent because it doesn't have its faults and it assumes a character:
* the board can't be twisted and it doesn't move ;
* the translucent keys are spotless;
* the key font has style;
* the sound is not the metallic reasoning of the board, but it is a clean, slightly 'retro', almost ASMR clacking sound that adds acoustic feedback as well as haptics;
* pressure can't be unintentional at a quarter or a third without knowing whether it's been taken into account, but it's well managed.
All in all, a very well thought-out, robust and well-finished design.
The compatibility with the QMK open source firmware and the VIA software is brilliant and opens up the possibilities.
I missed the V2, but the V3 is much better, what about the V4!
The keyboard is robust and well-built, the keys are virtually silent and respond perfectly, and the software is clear and intuitive. Nothing to complain about, I'd highly recommend it.
Forget other brands of keyboard. This one is simple, but complete. The typing comfort is just incredible. The switches are already lubricated and you can easily interchange them with others.
The design quality is there, the keyboard is heavy and exudes quality, for me it far, far surpasses all the other brands, whether Corsair, Razer, Logitech etc...
The software is still in its infancy, but should improve over the coming months.
