Perfect
Good value for money, works perfectly for my NAS in RAID 0+1. I would buy this brand again if needed.
Specifically designed for 1 to 8 bay NAS systems, Western Digital Red hard drives are built to run 24/7, and are aimed at home and small office environments. These 3.5" hard drives are built around 64 to 512 MB of cache on a SATA III bus. They are compatible with most major NAS servers.
Western Digital's exclusive NASware technology , built into all WD Red hard drives, enhances the storage performance of NAS systems by eliminating common compatibility, integration, upgrade, reliability, and cost of ownership issues found in traditional desktop hard drives.

NASware optimizes power consumption to achieve significant energy savings and minimize hard drive operating temperatures. This improves overall drive reliability and performance and reduces the cost of ownership of your NAS system.
With intelligent error recovery commands , NASware prevents hard drives from being excluded from RAID through improved error recovery. This results in better availability and less time wasted rebuilding the RAID. With command completion and for improved reliability, in the event of a power failure NASware minimises data corruption or loss by still executing the current command before shutting down.

Good value for money, works perfectly for my NAS in RAID 0+1. I would buy this brand again if needed.
uses USB external storage and less than a year later the disk gave up (the click of death) with 2GB of photos and videos lost.
I've got mixed feelings, out of the two I bought, one gave up on me in less than 2 years (~625h).
A fairly blatant rise in bad sectors (and a click in my ear :D), which without ZFS parity would have corrupted my data. I'm also quite surprised by the SMR technology, I'd heard that performance could be degraded, and well it's true. For use with large files and for reading, it's fine, but for random writing, it's a disaster.
However, my second one runs very well, without any errors or reallocated sectors.
Less than 3 years before it gave up the ghost! I might as well buy a first-price product. Another thing that bothers me is that you have to use more than 100 characters to describe something that's mediocre.
RAS: fairly quiet (duo bought 1 month apart, installed in a Synology DS7xx NAS), no particular problems to mention, either during installation or day-to-day use.
It's been running almost 24 hours a day without a hitch for the last 2 years.
Rather quiet.
100 characters is a lot to tell the life story of a hard drive though,
This is the 1st time I've ordered from this site, the order was received on time, parcel in good condition. I have nothing to complain about.
The product works, it does its job. Despite the price having risen again.
But received my parcel damaged torn, no anti-shock device in the box. I hope that in time the hard drive will hold.
I bought this HD to replace 1 of the 4 existing ones in my RAID (same ref WD RED 3Tb) on NAS SYOLOGY which had faulty sectors.
I have always bought WD RED 3 TO SATA but surprise when I added this new drive to my NAS SYNOLOGY: it told me that it was "INCOMPATIBLE" and that it was not advisable to include this drive in the RAID!
On closer inspection, this drive is "SMR" and SYNOLOGY only accepts "CMR" drives.
=> You should therefore take the reference "WESTERN DIGITAL WD RED 3 TO SATA 6GB/S --> "PLUS" Until now the RED range was CMR and it's a shame that LDLC doesn't specify this change of technology (switch to "SMR") and doesn't direct you to the "PLUS" range.
Well... I tried to include it in my RED anyway, I hope it won't jeopardise my data over time... (I made a cron backup on my 3TB with 1 faulty mains just in case...)
Used as a spare for a 4x6TB NAS, I'm unlikely to be using it any time soon, as its RED 6TB counterparts have been running without a hitch for long enough to demonstrate the reliability of this drive.
