Very good value for money but two drawbacks:
- it lacks a graphics chipset because with a Ryzen 3800X, the HDMI+DisplayPort connectivity becomes unusable
- does not come with the latest BIOS/EFI version so the processor is not supported at first boot (but the upgrade procedure is simple and well documented)
- the number of fan sockets.
The technical documentation indicates 3: 1 for the processor, 1 for the chipset and only 1 for the case fans.
If you have more, you probably need to use molex adapters.
- To the USB connectors:
There is a USB-C connector on the front of the motherboard, but no USB 3.2 connector for a USB-C connector on the front of the case.
Otherwise, nothing to report. The LEDs are configurable with the Gigabyte RGB Fusion software, easy installation and the finish is perfect!
This motherboard does the job but may suffer from a bug if it detects a PCI Express 4 graphics card like the Radeon 5700XT: the display receives no signal! To get around this, you have to force the PCI Express 3 port in the bios before installing the graphics card - which apparently has no effect on performance in game. So make sure you have an "old" PCI Express 3 card (or a processor with a graphics part, which the Ryzen's don't have), just in case, to avoid unnecessary CG returns to the service department.
This motherboard is a good companion to the ryzen 3700x cpu and its pci-e 4.0 support. The bios are nice and manageable with the mouse, easy to update from its internal menu.
The 2 M.2 ports are cleverly placed and discrete.
Online registration procedure for SSD promotion not stable, no confirmation or rejection despite several codes remaining.
A little short on USB in front compared to the competition.
Good product overall, easy installation, still need to test performance.
Good performance overall, the VRMs for a card of this size do the job.
The BIOS is a bit simplistic and the navigation sometimes not very obvious compared to ASUS or ASRock, but the feature set is there.
Two downsides though:
- The NVMe slot on the front side of the motherboard (the one directly connected to the CPU) does have a heatsink, but the SSD doesn't make contact with it (by far), which only serves to cool the chipset. As a result, both heat up and the chipset fan can be heard. Prefer the rear slot with a dedicated SSD cooler if the case allows it.
- The large backplate can clash with the case used at the rear, around the I/O block, especially in the case of smaller cases (SFF)
