On an older generation Corsair Obsidian 650D case the adapter connects to the rear panel and is very handy for connecting USB 3.0 cables from the front USB 3.0 ports. Or from devices that use USB 3.0. When these provide external USB 3.0 cables.
It is so much more aesthetic when the cables stay inside.
