The Noctua NH-D15 G2 LBC is a vastly improved version of the iconic Noctua NH-D15. With its two NF-A14x25r G2 PWM fans , eight heatpipes and asymmetrical dissipation system, it achieves a higher level of cooling performance than its illustrious predecessor, while remaining silent. The G2 LBC version pushes back the limits of air cooling and can compete with many AiOs. Noctua's NH-D15 G2 LBC offers greater compatibility thanks to an offset design that frees up the top PCIe x16 slot on most current motherboards.

    The product inspires confidence, but my experience with it has been mixed.

    When I received my assembled configuration, I had difficulty obtaining answers regarding the settings to optimise the case and processor ventilation for my usage.

    In practice, with an AMD Ryzen 9 9900X processor on a Gigabyte X870 AORUS ELITE WIFI7 motherboard, the fan revs up very quickly as soon as the processor is under load, resulting in a high noise level that is not very discreet.

    This cooling system was recommended to me instead of water cooling when I placed my order, and I trusted the technician.

    At this stage, I am a little disappointed with the acoustic performance of the system and the lack of guidance on the settings to get the most out of it. I hope to find the help I need on specialist forums to make this cooling system quieter, because as it stands, it is really noisy despite the eight 140mm fans fitted to the case.

    It's well worth the water cooling.

    My previous one lasted ~8 years with a Noctua, without even having to change the thermal paste, and I got used to the silence, so I continued with Noctua.
    This time, it was on a 9950x3d, with a Kryosheet rather than thermal paste: without overclocking, 35-40°C idle, ~55°C under light load, ~65°C under normal load (video editing rendering), ~75°C under synthetic load (OCCT, for example).
    With overclocking, it might not be enough without undervolting: under synthetic load, 95°C is achievable. So if overclocking is a must, you either need to consider undervolting as well, or probably consider water cooling.
