Simply happy with this optical drive, it does its job properly, but very disappointed by the explanations on this one, as it is necessary to have a paid software to play Blu-ray, we will have to pay an additional software to play our own Blu-ray that we honestly bought (but, they don't notify you before the purchase).
This almost 100,00€ player was bought for Blu-ray playback and you still have to pay between 80 and 100€ extra for software. This is a scam in disguise...
So, it is impossible to give a full opinion on a product that cannot be fully tested.
This is the last time I'll buy an Asus CD player - because this time, it's the best.

Installed on a pc running Linux (Debian 10). I was a bit worried but it was immediately recognised and able to read CDs.
Very good hardware, robust and efficient.
Once a few drivers were installed, it read DVDs perfectly.
It is necessary to install additional drivers to read Bluray (under Linux) and I haven't done it yet.
There's not much to say about it, it fulfils its role correctly, we don't ask more of it.
And I thought it was going to make a lot of noise, but it's fine.
It remains to be seen if it lasts...

All the tests carried out (CD, DVD, BR, home-burned and rewritable CDs and DVDs) have been conclusive. All good, then.
But we can hear it well; fortunately it was not a question of mounting it in a living room multimedia computer.
Very happy with this player too but also disappointed because it is necessary to have a paid software to read blurays, too bad it is not provided with a software. I don't read blurays with it.
Not much to post on that, just yes, that it works very well and we'll see with use, but in principle it's Asus... I hope they are as good as in motherboards and then there will be nothing to worry about
I received my PC with this drive a week ago, I have the DVDs (not yet tested the Blue Raie) and it is very good so far. It's also (almost) completely silent. I recommend it.

It's a pity that a software for Blue-ray playback is not included (like PowerDVD, even if you continue with CyberLink), which would have avoided additional costs to fully use the player.
Product conforms to the description, fits perfectly into my case, fixing screws supplied, does its job (reading, burning).
Quiet product, allows very fast CD rip. For reading, opt for VLC.

For an optical drive it does its job well. Playing a movie is done without any noise, so it's perfect.
The only drawback, but it's not specific to this product, is that they don't make simple drives anymore. So I had to spend 70€ on a burner that I won't be using.
Note that thanks to Hadopi (ironic), you'll have to pay for extra software to play your own Blu-Ray that you honestly bought. Welcome to France.
As already read on another review, there is no software to play blu-ray. I'll have to checkout again, thanks Asus you're great!!!
I'm not sure what to say. It plays dvd's normally. I have not tried the burning function yet.
Easy installation, plays DVDs and Blurays perfectly. Is relatively quiet and the simple design is perfect for a black case.
However, no software is included to play bluray. You have to buy it yourself.

I've been using it for 7 years now and it's the 3rd asus drive/burner I've had, and they've all had this problem in my opinion...
To replace my old LG player/writer I chose to upgrade to the top range with the Bluray and it was a wise choice as the product is really good.
Quite quiet and, above all, very efficient!
For the moment it does its job... not yet testing the Mdiscs... Well, I've got 1000 years to see... there's room for improvement.
I believe that some blu-ray players are sold with a licence for a windows blu-ray player software. This is not the case with this one, which could have been indicated more clearly on the product sheet.
Some blu-rays can be played with VLC with a little manipulation.
Otherwise, it works quite well. I have not encountered any problems with the DVDs. I did not test the burning.
This player is easy to install, no problems with recognition or playback. The only downside is that there is no software to conveniently play Blu-ray discs. No need to bother with a separate Blu-ray player

This player does not come with a paid Blu-Ray player software (PowerDVD for example?). Playing Blu-Ray with free software, such as VLC, is very complicated or even impossible depending on the Blu-Ray, so this player is INVALID unless you pay 50 to 100 € more for software.
This is an aberration! I don't even see how I can rate the player without being able to test it when it is installed! Bravo ASUS.
I find the player a bit noisy. And I can't play blurays under windows which is annoying for a bluray player ... after that, I haven't had to use the burner yet.
Does the job but lacks a powerdvd type player software which is quite expensive separately.

Bought this to replace my asus drive that wouldn't open anymore. This drive does the job it is supposed to do. Not noisy, does not vibrate, no need for a specific driver, supported by VLC.
I am satisfied because it works perfectly but I need a paid software to read the blurays and this is very stupid because you have to pay more to read the blurays when the player is supposed to read them ><
Very good bluray player, not expensive and very efficient, it allows me to copy blurays for my mediaserver in half an hour, not even! it depends of course on the length of the film, but in general it takes half an hour
In short, very efficient, affordable price, I recommend!
It does what you want it to do at a very reasonable price, I find it quite quiet which is a definite plus. I would highly recommend this product to anyone who wants quality for a reasonable price.

The driver never wanted to install, the software suite is useless and the only really useful thing (a software to play blu-ray) is not present...
This player, although good and functional, and at an affordable price, made me rethink the need to have a physical player on a desktop PC today...
Otherwise, on the delivery side, no worries.
The black colour fits perfectly with my Corsair case, nothing sticks out or shows. No excessive noise, I've had much noisier. The only problem is the Blu-Ray playback, you have to buy a software, otherwise it's double or nothing with free stuff.
To be clear, the product does its job, burns quickly, plays all the DVDs/Blu-Rays that I have presented to it, but... What a noise!
It's not too annoying when you play a film because it doesn't get activated all the time but when you burn a DVD it sounds like the PC is going to take off.
I'm not going to complain about the price, but I expected a better insulated product all the same.
