I've been using ASUS motherboards for many years now, and I've never had a problem with reliability!
This card is really good (without realising it, I realised that it's one of the best cards out there).
Good ergonomics, easy assembly (even with an old Lian Li Lancool II case bought here).
Be careful with NVME M.2, you need to have drives without integrated heat sinks, otherwise you have to do what I did, remove the heat sink integrated into the motherboard.
The USB-C type E 20Gbps connection point is top-notch (it's a shame that my case doesn't allow front connection, but there's nothing impossible about this kind of thing if you're a bit of a handyman).
The PCI 5.0 16x for the video card is really good. On my old GIGABYTE 570 Gaming X, it was a real problem to disconnect the video card. No problem here.
The 7 USB 10Gbps ports in the rear ports are terrific. All I have to do now is change some of the cabling on the connectors integrated into my screens :)
In terms of performance with the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor, I've got a real performance boost with my AM5-compatible Noctua NH-D15 SE-AM4.
This motherboard is truly versatile and high-performance. Ideal for designers and professionals, it offers excellent connectivity and impressive stability.
Overall, the card offers a good range of connectors and a good level of performance
On the other hand, there are still a number of minor instabilities:
- EXPO profiles that can cause problems on recent bios
- USB tends to disconnect itself
Beware also of the utilities used to update certain firmware on the card: one worked, the other literally crashed my machine (W11 refused to start, even in safe mode). I had to switch off everything electrically to allow the faulty component to "recover", then reinstall W11 completely.
I've been testing this motherboard for 10 days now.
Hyper complete, LAN 10 Gbits / WIFI 7 in 320 Mhz / BT 5.4
At this level, I think it's really well supplied and that's what I was asking of it.
It is essential to reinstall the Windows 11 system completely so that everything is stable with the drivers from the ASUS site.
The finish is excellent, but ASUS only provides the bare minimum. No screws, and NO MANUAL!
It's getting to be too much at this price...
The X870E chipset is young, and so is the BIOS, so there are a lot of teething problems. (This applies to all brands with this chipset, it's not totally due to ASUS but also to AMD) I'm currently using the 0606 BIOS (not wanting to play around with the 0706 which bugs a lot of people).
I had to spend an afternoon configuring the BIOS to understand why the RAM wasn't booting with the EXPO profile.
It's a known bug on the forums, so my solution was to boot with just 1 strip to start with and then activate EXPO (6000Mhz for me), then do the same with the second strip ONLY, and finally put both on (I should point out that the RAM selected is indeed from the official ASUS QVL memory ref: CMH32GX5M2B6000Z30K).
I almost returned all the hardware because it was so unstable at start-up but now everything runs perfectly, the worst thing is not knowing why and that many do not activate EXPO to take advantage of their RAM at full power.
The 1st time you boot with EXPO it's slow, 60 seconds to check the RAM, but after that it's instantaneous and very fast on the next ones (as fast as my AM4 before).
RYZEN5 9600X
Excellent VRM temperatures
Overclocking option as complete as on the ROGs.
Geekbench SingleCore: 3399 - Multicore: 15540
Cinebench SingleCore: 2223 - MultiCore: 17380
BlackFriday price: 489 euros. It's expensive, but it's the most complete of all...
