How long does it take to copy 8TB via USB? The drive works very well, we'll have to see how long it lasts, but there's no reason why.
The LDLC service is top notch, as usual.
I bought this drive to go with a DS418 which already has 2 18TB Ultrastars. I don't have much more to say, my nas hasn't been any noisier since I added it (it was noisier before too??), in terms of performance, it's obviously a long way from a SATA SSD but it's more than enough for my needs. I'll have to wait and see, but for the moment I'm very happy with it. The price may be a bit high, but it's the only 18TB with 512MB cache in this price bracket.
Very satisfied with the purchase of a Western Digital WD Gold 4Tb WD4004FRYZ to replace a Seagate ST2000DM001.
This drive, which can be heard scratching when in use, is still less noisy than the old Seagate.
The drive can be prepared on a Synology DS1618+ (also bought from LDLC a long time ago and still active). A warning message is displayed, however, because the WD4004FRYZ is not yet referenced in the list of compatible drives. If you want to use this drive on a Windows PC after a quick reformat, you'll need to delete all the DSM logical partitions.
The drive is delivered in a vacuum-packed blister pack (bulk without screws or cables) surrounded by a solid layer of cardboard. I miss the LDLC packaging of yesteryear, which included a good layer of foam to prevent Dead on arrival.
I've been buying Western Digital hard drives since at least the year 2000 and I've never had the slightest problem using them, which is why I'm pleased to testify today...
Used for backup: does the job well, throughput seems OK but I didn't try to test it.
Clearly noisier than a WD Red, with too much idle and scratching noise for a silent tower, so I only use it occasionally in an external case.
As for reliability, we'll see over time.
There's nothing wrong with LDLC's service, it's really good.
the very basic packaging: the disc in a sheet of cardboard, some crumpled paper underneath, in a small cardboard box. I remembered more protective packaging for HDDS.
Bought a few months ago on LDLC for 589€9. Now it's 799€96!
That was before the price increase.
The capacity is just huge. And the transfer rates are great.
Used in a Synology DS216+ NAS.
You can hear a few clicks at startup, and that's normal (tray test).
After that, the noise remains relatively contained (but not for a 100% silent configuration).
A must have!
I have had it for 2 weeks. It works well, nothing to report.
It seems to be slightly noisier when scratching than my previous 10TB Seagate.
Note that the LDLC packaging is impeccable. This is very important for hard drives. This doesn't seem to be the case for another very large online competitor, where this drive may be slightly cheaper but the reviews say it's sitting right in a big box.
Hello,
Ordered on Monday, received on Wednesday. Thank you LDLC.
I already own a 10TB Gold (full) and chose the same range as my PC is on 24/7.
I lightened its little brother and during the transfer which lasted 6 hours, I was able to transfer about 5Tb, with an average of 250Mb/s with peaks at 267/269!
It more than lives up to its promise, given that the source was a mechanical HDD. Even from an SSD, the transfers also plateaued at around 270MB/s. My PC (Asustek P9X79 & 3930K) is almost 10 years old with SATA controllers that struggle a bit.
It looks quieter than the 10TB version.
I hope this Gold Hard Drive will last longer than the 2 WD Blacks I had that gave up the ghost after 6 years, a few months apart :(
