The Samsung PM9A3 NVMe SSD supports PCI-Express 4.0 which removes the bottleneck of the more limited read performance of PCIe 3.0. This SSD offers up to one million random read IOPS and up to 180,000 random write IOPS.
To meet the demands of high-usage, high-cycle data centres, the PM9A3 SSD uses firmware that prioritises quality of service (QoS) for sustained random workloads, so all virtual machines and containers run quickly and smoothly. The firmware is optimised for always-on, always-busy workloads, ready to respond quickly to incoming work requests.

The Samsung PM9A3 SSD includes enterprise power loss protection (PLP). During normal power down periods, the host server allocates time to preserve data integrity by issuing a standby command to each device. However, in the event of an unexpected power failure, data cached in the internal DRAM buffers of a storage device may be lost. This can happen during unexpected power outages or when users disconnect devices from the system. However, the Samsung PM9A3 SSD has been designed to prevent data loss resulting from unexpected power outages through its PLP architecture. When a failure is detected, the SSD immediately uses the stored energy of its PLP capacitors to provide enough time to transfer the data cached in the DRAM to the flash memory, ensuring no data loss.
