The machine replaces a multifunction inkjet. It is larger, so space is at a premium. An illustrated instruction manual is included and is very easy to follow. It takes a little time to start up, which is surprising at first, but then printing is very fast.
It's easy to install on Windows and Linux, using both WiFi and USB. On Linux, you had to remember to click on "Add a printer" and not just plug it in. Some people have installed the apps provided, others haven't, and it works.
It rarely goes wrong, although when printing 'encrypted' pages we haven't yet worked out when it does.
The scanner and photocopier work well.

After 1 year of use with a lot of problems, I'm going to part with it because :
- The print quality is poor when it comes to photos or colour blocks
- After a standby or a shutdown, the cartridges are no longer recognised (even those of the Brother brand)
I am really disappointed with this product and I would only recommend it for text printing only and not for photos or anything else!

Poor reception in shop. I don't understand why, in the event of a malfunction, you can't take the product back to the place where it was delivered (this would be a strong differentiator compared to Amazon). The answer was not very courteous and incoherent: if you wanted to be able to return the product, you had to order it in shop. And when asked how to do this: "you have to send us an email"! What an advantage to do this when there is a site of the quality of LDLC!
What a difference with brands where you can come to any shop in case of a problem, which for me is a major argument compared to Amazon.
Overall, great first experience with LDLC. It's a shame that the collection point is not as customer friendly as the site's support and that there is no shared tracking of LDLC purchases.

The package is very heavy! The printer works very well. I had to go to the Brother website to get the right drivers and my linux mint had already detected and installed everything I needed. Also detected under windows 10.
The printer, after authorization, connected to the internet and went itself to look for an update. Scanner not yet tested.

Well packaged, but due to the mass and lack of grip points on the sides, the printer is not easy to remove from the box. The removal of the transport tape and protection is clearly instructed and can be done step by step.
I connected the printer to the box via Ethernet. The printer is now available as a Windows 10 printer and I was able to print a few test pages without any difficulty.
For lack of time, I have not yet used the CD provided to access the scanner functions.
The power cable is a straight cable to the printer. I will order an angled cable to save some space.
Machine received quickly, as expected. Installing the drivers for Ubuntu and bringing it online via wifi took only a few minutes and everything is recognised. I like it when a plan goes smoothly.
Bought to replace an old monochrome laser printer of the same brand (Brother provides drivers that work wonderfully under Linux, both for the printer and the scanner, unlike other more closed brands, this is my third Brother printer and still no problem).

Good multifunctional printer, perfect for a dental office. Very quiet. The double-sided printing is done automatically, so you can print 2 sheets where you used to do 3.
Very disappointed. Too expensive for the features it offers. Frankly, a smaller, cheaper printer would do. After sales service brother = 0. Bought it in March 2020 and I'm already having a lot of problems. For me it was a big investment and I'm left with this printer without knowing what to do with it, I can't even resell it.
I have been using this printer for a year now and I can't find much to complain about. It's perfect for printing any document quickly, the duplex is automatic, if you want to scan a file you just drop it in and it scans all the pages by itself or if you want to scan an ID card or a page there is the classic scanner part. you can print on wifi and from computer, tablet, smartphone, etc.
It's quiet and it's nice.
The touch screen interface is very intuitive and easy to use, it warns you when there are updates and you just have to click on OK.

After many setbacks with an inkjet printer (which spent its time cleaning nozzles and emptying ink), I chose to switch to colour laser technology. I am delighted with this Brother printer in terms of features (colour, auto duplex, document feeder, wifi) and overall quality (I had the opportunity to use it well during the Covid) vs price (before Covid). It is very quiet, printing is fast and very sharp. I tried a photo print and even if the laser is not adapted, the rendering is good. However, beware of the dimensions, it is imposing and weighs about 25kg.
Note: the feeder does not do double-sided printing (managed electronically by turning the pile of paper over).
I'm taking off one star because the driver installation installs several duplicate / complementary software programs, it's a bit of a mess.

Being fed up with buying cartridges, and especially with seeing these inkjet printers (Canon) definitely break down after a few years, with only a few hundred or thousand pages printed.
I decided to switch to Laser/LED.
Although compact, the BROTHER is imposing and heavy (over 20Kg)
Four separate cartridges, we'll see if it's really profitable in use.
Automatic duplexing for printing and copying, manual duplexing for the scanner.
Ethernet OR Wifi connection with the addition of Wifi-Direct (Ethernet + Wifi-Direct in my case), which allows printing and scanning from a phone (Android or Apple)
The only restriction for the moment is the printing of Photos, although not supported by the printer, it is possible provided that you find suitable and certified papers, but no doubt the rendering will be less good than with an inkjet.
I recommend that if you have some space, on a cabinet for example, to install it, for its speed and print quality.

Impressive indeed.
The printer connects, CUPS detects it, -- it downloads the latest firmware, -- it launches the test page with a nice Debian logo on it, nice ping-pong on our little home network, the cats watch the ball go by, -- for a start, it couldn't be smoother or easier.
All is well, all is running -- although the DCP-L3550CDW is as heavy as its shipment from LDLC was fast (dazzling even).
We'll see in the long run, but let's not get carried away.
One thing bothered me: it is delivered without a usb cable... The manual does tell us which one to buy, but still... I'm not always able to connect to the internet, and if you do, you'll surely be in for a nasty surprise (hence my score of less than 10).
I was looking for a colour laser printer and I found what I needed. I found my happiness. I can print via my laptop, my mobile phone or my fixed PC, all in excellent quality. I was surprised by the size of the machine... I'm switching from an Officejet 4500 to this lovely baby but it's a detail because in the end, it does the job!

The only detail I don't like is that the documentation indicates options not available in the printer, a priori. The rest: driverless great even if the printers under Linux, it's been years since there was a need to install the driver, it was necessary to go through the network detection phase (for eth printers) now unnecessary. This Brother model is a real workhorse for those who want a multifunctional device that does near perfect colour and B/W printing and moreover duplexing. The scanning is also very high quality and fast! I especially chose this product because it doesn't have faxing, a function that is completely obsolete nowadays, even in companies, and also because of the silence (45dB). The purchase and follow-up of the product by LDLC is done in a professional way. I had asked the customer service to send it to me as soon as possible and I received it this Saturday morning, ordered on Thursday evening. I am very pleased with the service and the quality of the product.
The whole family is enjoying this printer: the children now print their documents in colour, and we adults our important documents and also scan what we want to keep only in digital format. The speed and silence are great. Very well finished product. Brother is solid: the printer that replaces this magnificent DCP L3550CDW comes to replace a B/W laser printer that has served us for... 17 years and still working !
I'm sure you'll find it's a good deal, but it's not the only thing you'll need to consider: you'll never have to think about printing again. No need to think before each print: do I need to print in colour or not?

It is silent, the printing speed is quite acceptable for private use.
It is possible to scan directly to a cloud, to an email address or to the computer.
It is possible to print from a computer or from an Android/Apple device via the very well made application.
The only thing that is missing but not at all desirable is the ability to scan to a USB stick.
The multi-function printer is of very good quality. There is the possibility to scan to the network...
Almost immediate installation via Wifi with the start-up software.
A few mishaps afterwards for the software to be downloaded as they are not very useful and must be tested.
Provide some ICC profiles to improve the colour tone.
Remember that the "starter" toners only provide 1,000 pages of text.
All in all the printer does everything you ask of it (excellent ergonomics) from a distance or with the control screen, and you can leave it next to the desk as it is very quiet.
