Like many mobile phones, the USB socket is at the bottom. A normal cord is often bent and therefore damaged. The 90° bend means you can handle the phone while charging or connected in data mode without having to worry about damaging the cable. In short, a very practical cable that I'd recommend.
It's a cable, yes, but one that's bent at 90° so you can put your tablet or smartphone down without it suffering as a result. It's a good-sized cable, in that its diameter isn't thin and it's quite robust.
Note that I bought this cable in two lengths, 3.00 m and 0.50 m, and that both work perfectly.
