ClearMR certification, defined by VESA, is a new certification for performance in terms of sharpness of moving images. The MPG 491CQPX QD-OLED screen has passed the demanding tests with flying colours and received ClearMR 13,000 certification. The CMR range represents levels of blur performance based on the ratio of clear to blurred pixels. Unlike standard LCD panels, the QD-OLED panel can control each pixel independently, offering more intense black tones without backlight bleeding, a problem that often occurs with LCD panels. The MPG 491CQPX QD-OLED screen offers a high contrast ratio and is certified VESA DisplayHDR True Black 400. Thanks to independent pixel control, the MPG 491CQPX QD-OLED screen offers improved contrast and better colour display.
MSI takes care of your OLED screen with exclusive OLED Care 2.0 technology. MSI OLED CARE 2.0 optimises the protection of the OLED panel and reduces the risk of damage during prolonged use. The fanless design allows for efficient and silent heat dissipation, further extending the life of innovative QD-OLED displays. For broad compatibility, the MSI MPG 491CQPX QD-OLED monitor has DisplayPort, HDMI and USB-C connectors. Received very well packaged, assembly is simple.
The QD-OLED panel is stunning: deep blacks, superb colors, and the 32:9 format at 5120x1440 advantageously replaces two screens for multitasking, very smooth in games thanks to the 240 Hz.
The screen is really big and impressive and with the 5-year warranty, I am more than satisfied with my purchase.
Pros:
- well packaged
- all cables are included (except audio jack)
- fairly light and easy to assemble
- excellent rendering for gaming and videos
- very wide, allows displaying lots of windows at the same time
- PBP easy to set up (+ Logitech Flow to manage the automatic switching from one screen to another with mouse and keyboard)
- small programmable joystick on the back
- price
Cons:
- usable for office work but text is tight and not as sharp as on LCD screens. To improve readability, on Windows I use a display scale of 120-125% and set the screen to pro/sRGB, contrast 40, image enhancement Low, sharpness 0 or 1.
- connectors hard to reach behind the screen
- firmware update requires display port
In summary, it’s a top screen after the firmware update, setup to improve readability and PBP setup. I use it mainly for productivity and videos, and I do however regret a slight lack of sharpness for text.
Replacing my old setup with this MSI MPG 491CQPX, I’m stepping into a whole new dimension. The 240Hz smoothness on an OLED panel is mind-blowing: the instantaneous response time eliminates any motion blur. In 32:9, the immersion on Manor Lords is incredible—you can see your entire domain at a glance with absolute sharpness!
The QD-OLED panel delivers infinite contrast and vibrant colors. On the practical side, the USB-C hub (90W) is perfect for my laptop, and the MSI Gaming Intelligence software lets you adjust everything with the mouse. The OLED Care 2.0 features are very reassuring for longevity.
Make sure you have enough desk space and use the included HDMI 2.1 cable properly for 5120x1440 at 240Hz. It’s the ultimate monitor. Thanks to LDLC for their professionalism!
Compared to my previous screen on the same machine (27" 2k), the difference in comfort is noticeable. When juggling multiple windows, it's like night and day. I'm running Linux, where it's easier than on other systems to manage lots of windows, but even there, the comfort is incomparable.
And of course, in games, the display is gorgeous. Note that with the original 2080ti, it worked pretty well, with about 60 frames per second, which was usable. Since replacing it with a Radeon RX 9070XT, I am much closer to the screen's full potential.
The management interface via the small integrated joystick is comprehensive and practical, overall flawless.
It's stunning! Its image quality and refresh rate are exceptional, with perfect blacks thanks to QD-OLED, and incredible immersive comfort on this ultra-wide 49" screen.
