The IEEE 1394 interface (also known as FireWire or i.Link) is one of the fastest generic interfaces available today. It can reach speeds of up to 400 megabits per second (or about 50 MB/s) in IEEE 1394a-S400 (FireWire 400), allowing large amounts of data to be transferred in a very short time. Although not as common as its cousin (the USB 2.0 interface), IEEE 1394 is just as easy to use because it is also "Hot Plug", and can also operate over very long distances without loss of speed (up to 100 metres).
