A new freedom for complex prints

Designed to easily produce parts with advanced geometries, the Bambu Lab X2D combines a generous print volume of up to 256 x 256 x 260 mm with a dual-nozzle extrusion system. The main nozzle creates the model, while the auxiliary nozzle can deposit a different material, particularly to create supports that detach cleanly and preserve surface quality. Thanks to its enclosed chamber heated up to 65 °C, its nozzle reaching 300 °C and its intelligent thermal management, the X2D can actively cool the environment to successfully print PLA bridges and overhangs, as well as maintain a high temperature to limit warping of technical materials. It thus combines versatility, ease of use and professional quality in a machine designed to produce rather than multiply adjustments.

Two complementary extruders for uncompromising printing

The architecture of the X2D combines two extrusion modes within a single head. The main extruder with direct drive offers a short filament path, beneficial for precision and broad material compatibility. The auxiliary extruder, installed at the rear of the printer and connected to the head by a PTFE tube, uses a Bowden configuration with a drive force suited to its longer path. Switching from one nozzle to the other relies on a fully mechanical mechanism, with no additional motor on the head. This keeps the head lightweight and limits inertia, vibrations and maintenance risks. Tested over more than one million switches, this system enables rapid alternation between the main material, support material or colors, while reducing purging and filament waste.

Smart technologies for consistent quality

The X2D incorporates the control technologies developed by Bambu Lab to automate the most sensitive operations. Bambu Dynamic Flow Calibration analyzes the behavior of the direct-drive extrusion motor, hotend, nozzle and filament before each print to compensate for flow variations. Its proprietary PMSM servo motor, capable of sampling torque and position 20 000 times per second, can detect a feed anomaly or clog at an early stage. No fewer than 31 sensors monitor the filament path, the thermal environment and the machine’s safety status. The three-stage filtration also helps purify the discharged air, while the optional vision encoder brings motion precision into the 50-micron category. All this operates with an announced noise level below 50 dB.
