I have several in use. I took this one to replace the oldest (4 years old) which is still functional but is starting to be a bit noisy.
The LDLC service is top notch, as usual.
This external hard drive from Western Digital is a fine-looking object, well finished, stable on its non-slip base and with a large ventilation bay on the top. Of the 12TB advertised, however, expect only 10.9TB, as on the internal
the internal 12TB I own. Windows 11 recognised it immediately. After more than two hours of data copying at an average of 220 Mb/s, the air expelled was only lukewarm. A very good product that I'd recommend.
A special mention to LDLC who, despite a few weeks' delay due to the product being out of stock, made a nice commercial gesture by sending it to me by Chronopost at no extra charge.
I'm happy with my purchase, this hard drive is fast, quiet and reliable. I can back up my data with satisfaction.

Great for keeping track of Windows files when you use videos a lot.

Very disappointed, the camera is not even a year old and already it doesn't work! I had all my photos in it (I'm an amateur photographer), all the ones I had been able to recover from the previous hard drive that had failed me. I had among other things the photos that I had to develop for an exhibition + those of birth photos.

What to do?
I have been using a 3TB (2.72 real) WD My Book in NTFS since 2013 with satisfaction.
This second WD My Book of 6Tb even if it works very well for the moment is still not in the same category as the previous one.
- 6Tb in reality 5,45Tb is a big loss of space.
- This HD is in exFAT which is not as good as NTFS as for some files the space occupied is double or even triple in disk space.
I'm still wondering about the usefulness of this drive in terms of quality/price compared to the previous one.
- No indicator of power supply of the disc.
I am relatively disappointed considering the cost price.
It would be necessary to indicate the real rate of disk space in the data sheet.
I have other Western Digital external hard drives (from this same My Book series, or from the Elements series), and also internal ones, and I have never had a problem with this brand.
4 TB is comfortable! When you think that for the same price, not so long ago, you had 400 GB!
I don't use the backup package provided. I prefer the excellent SyncBackFree.

After more than a month of use, I am still fully satisfied.
I was rather worried at the beginning about the delivery, we all know how fragile this type of item is, but nothing to report when I unpacked it and when I put it into service after 2 or 3 tests, still nothing to report. I'm not sure if it's a good idea to use it as a replacement for the old one, but it's a good idea to use it as a replacement for the new one.
It is therefore a product that I recommend if you really need extra space
This is the 3rd WD hard drive I have purchased for data storage. I have no worries with these drives. I recommend them for my storage use: photos, video and various backups.
This is my 5th Western Digital desktop HDD, a brand I am extremely satisfied with. A HDD acquired to back up my DVD & BluRay collection. This HDD works perfectly although a bit noisy and above all, its narrow and high design gives it an unstable balance that a too rigid USB cable could unbalance and cause it to tip over. This is not an insignificant detail because this big HD contains all my backups. Be careful to keep it well balanced. Very fast delivery.
I have been using it for almost 2 months and it runs flawlessly for a weekly backup under Windows.
Note that there is a USB 3 cable provided with it, and that Acronis True Image does not manage the full backup every x increments, so you have to reset the My Book before this one....

I have received this product.
I have only had it for a few weeks and it is too early to give a precise opinion on this type of equipment.
What surprised me is that it makes noise (it scratches from time to time). Whereas the previous 4TB My Book is perfectly silent.
I hope that this noise will not be to the detriment of its lifespan or the quality of the recordings.

I've been using them for a while now, but they work perfectly and do their job. The only thing to improve would be to have everything sent as a bonus by amazon, which manages deliveries 10,000 times better than the post office (chrono or other)...but I'm quibbling here...

I am surprised and delighted that this My Book 8Tb works perfectly on a USB 3.0 port, unlike the My Book 6Tb previously purchased. The backups to which it is dedicated are finally carried out with an appreciable saving of time.
Western Digital drives have never disappointed me.
The My book must be reformatted under Mac OS, but nothing complicated. On the other hand, if you previously had another disk for TimeMachine, you have to check this one for the automatic backup to work.
I would have liked a small light indicating if the disk is working or not, but it's minor...
I've been a computer scientist and developer for a few years now, and I swear by Western Digital for all my storage needs (USB stick, internal HDD, external HDD...) and I'm still not disappointed: the hardware is robust and reliable. This hard drive is very easy to install, recognized immediately by Windows, WD true to itself! Brand to recommend!
This My Book replaces a tired WD predecessor that has been running non stop for 5 years of intensive use. And the USB 3 changes the game completely ;) I'm confident in buying it, like all the other WD products, in Green as well as in Red
Spacious, elegant design, small, discreet and self-contained. A good office companion.
The hard drive is well made. It is rather quiet and the write speeds are correct for USB 3.0 (40-50 MB/s).
I'm running Win7 pro 64 and the effective capacity of the drive is 7.25TB for the 8TB announced.
It does its job.
The WD MyBook (New) 6Tb -USB 3.0, ready to use, formatted in exFAT, was very useful to me when I was setting up a backup strategy that had become necessary (important documents, heavy 4K video files,...). I use Acronis True Image 2017 for my backups and it works very well with it, but I tried to locate an additional system backup in it, which I did with Windows, which only recognises the NTFS format. I was therefore forced to buy a Transcend 2.5" 500GB in NTFS format this time.
However, I do not regret my purchase.
